Writing one emotional story for five distinct voices

A look at lyric architecture, point of view, and why vocal-group songs need both a shared identity and individual moments.

A vocal-group song cannot simply sound like a solo song divided into parts. It needs a collective identity: a reason these voices belong in the same emotional moment.

Amy begins by defining the shared promise of the song, then looks for places where individual voices can reveal a different shade of that promise. A verse may feel personal, a pre-chorus may build agreement, and the chorus has to feel inevitable when everyone arrives together.

The most important rule remains the same as any other song: clarity. Listeners should understand what the singers want, what stands in their way, and why the chorus is the one thing they all need to say.
